You won’t find any Disney fairies in these books. These stories are about the hidden Fae world of fairies, goblins, trolls, sprites, kelpies, etc. Those typically tiny creatures who live in your midst undetected until a barrier is breached between the Fae world and the human world. Books like Fablehaven and Artemis Fowl continue to attract many readers, especially boys.

While visiting their grandfather, Seth and Kendra begin to find weird things going on. Highly curious, Seth disregards every warning his grandfather tells him and consequently havoc breaks loose on the property known as Fablehaven.
Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony Diterlizzi (series)
The Grace family, minus their father, have moved into Great Aunt Lucinda’s old mansion. While investigating a room in the attic, twin Jared uncovers a book that explains all the creatures of the fairy world. One of those creatures is a brownie, which turns into a boggart when angered. There happens to be one living in the house and when it’s destructive side wreaks havoc, Jared is blamed.
